4 Ways To Stop Junk Mail from SUNNY SAVES!
Written by Sunny Gray

I feel like I recycle 2/3 of my mail before opening because I know that I don't want another credit card, that certain catalogs don't suit my style or budget, or because I don't need a new home mortgage or car.  I can add my number to the national "do not call" list stopping those telemarketers dead in their tracks, but what about a "do not mail" list?  According to DoNotMail.org, junk mail in the US accounts for one-third of all the mail delivered in the world; however, a national do not mail registry is not yet available.  You can sign a petition to stop junk mail, and you use these tools.

With thousands of commercial lists, it's hard to get your name off all of them, but you can start with DirectMail.com, where you can make a dent.  You can also register with the Direct Marketing Association to stop unwanted mail AND email.

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Consumer Credit Reporting Companies (Equifax, Trans Union and Experian) can include your name on lists used by creditors or insurers to send you those "you're pre approved!" offers.  Luckily you have the right to opt-out, but of course, you have to take the extra step.  Opt-out here.

Last week I came home to find a new phone book on the front porch, the one I never use.  I headed to the recycling bin again, trying to think of a way that the kids could use it for an art project.  Seems like I made an angel out of one 30 years ago?  Anyway, if you too wish to stop receiving the phone book, visit YellowPagesGoesGreen.org.

Good luck with greening your mail box - just think of all the time and paper you will save!
